We are seeking a Fitter and Turner Apprentice to join the TAFE Queensland team at their Acacia Ridge campus.
Once settled in the apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to learn the trade at their Eagle Farm campus at different times as well.
TAFE is happy to look at candidates who are just out of school and looking for their first start in a trade as well as those who may have some previous experience as a trade assistant in a relevant trade.
Undertaking this four-year apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to become a qualified Fitter and Turner while completing your MEM302019 Certificate III in Engineering (Fitting/Machining).
Job DetailsAs a Fitter and Turner apprentice with TAFE your role will be varied with a predominant focus on the maintenance of the wide variety of equipment and machinery that is on the campus in the various trade block areas.
You will also be assisting the tradespeople in installing any new equipment while getting to work with various machinery of your trade including lathes, mills, hydraulic presses, welding plant and power and hand tools.
You will get the opportunity to work with experienced tradespeople and learn how to install, repair, service, and maintain machinery and equipment in an environment that is different to a manufacturing plant where there is pressure to get a machine up and running ASAP and therefore you will get the chance to repair things thoroughly and efficiently.

We are looking for a candidate who sees this trade as a career, has good problem-solving skills, and excellent mechanical aptitude. A Certificate II in Engineering is a plus but not a requirement.
Because of the variety of people you will be in contact with including teachers, students and sometimes dignitaries who visit the campus, you will need to have a high level of communication and both professional and cultural awareness, as you will be at times asked about your role and what it entails.
