Job description

About the role
This is a permanent full-time position, working 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm) and is located at the Nowra Administration Building.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade dependent on experience. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

Duties
Reporting directly to the Lead - Floodplain Management, the focus of this position is to:

  • Project manage Flood Studies, Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Floodplain Management Plans and their implementation for the City according to the NSW Flood Risk Management Manual;
  • Coordinate and prepare grant applications, and integrate Council’s matching funds into the Council budget process;
  • Review the existing flood data and associated information, and provide advice on improving the efficiency of the data and information to a higher standard; and
  • Provide technical advice and assessment of flood related information submitted with development applications and planning proposals.

Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Civil or Environmental Engineering degree or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience in Floodplain Engineering and management;
  • Demonstrated effective time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to balance competing workloads and deliver within deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic processes for catchment-based flooding as well as ocean inundation events:
  • Experience in GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and one or more of the following: WBNM, RAFTS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW or equivalent and the ability to review program output reports:
  • Experience in utilising and outputting information using WaterRIDE Flood Manager software:
  • Sound working knowledge of the NSW Floodplain Development Manual (2005) and/or Flood Risk Management Manual (2023) and Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR 2019):
  • Class C Driver’s License;
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa).
