What we offer you
We currently have an opportunity for a flood risk management specialist with two to seven years’ experience, based in either our Sydney or Brisbane offices.
In this role you would have the opportunity to apply your foundation knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics to innovative projects in flood risk management, policy development and strategic thinking, research and development, and ultimately work towards building more disaster resilient communities.
Exciting projects that our flood risk specialist team have recently work on include:
Technical oversight in the delivery of the Brisbane River Strategic Floodplain Management Study, and implementation of 12 actions on behalf of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, including lead author of two new Queensland policy documents.
Expert advice to state government agencies on topics ranging from early warning systems, risk-based land use planning, and flood damage assessment.
Supporting a substantial number of Councils in undertaking flood risk management studies and plans across Queensland and NSW, since completing the first floodplain risk management study under the NSW Flood Program in 1983.
Continued involvement in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley investigations, including the Warragamba Dam upgrade.
Opportunities for the successful applicant include:
Undertake a range of significant flood risk management projects ranging from R&D of new concepts, developing policy, implementing strategies and plans, and developing risk-aligned management solutions,
Peer review and expert review of key state government projects,
Community consultation with flood affected residents,
Work as part of a dynamic team to develop and apply innovative solutions with the aim of delivering high quality solutions to our clients.

Your skills and experience
The position would suit a Civil/Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist or other related discipline with some experience in the water industry and a strong interest in flood risk management.
To be successful, applicants need to address the following criteria:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, or other relevant area of study.
Foundational experience in hydrology and/or hydraulic modelling.
A genuine interest in disaster resilience, strategic thinking and risk management.
Ability to work collaboratively in a project team.
Problem solving skills with a high attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
