About The Role

AEMO's Forecasting division is responsible for providing medium and long -term forecasts of Australia's energy supply and demand. As our Energy Forecasting Analyst, you will support the delivery of energy consumption forecasts for key publications. This involves developing, advising, and effectively communicating medium to long term (2 to 30 year) forecasts of electricity and gas consumption. You will use a mix of forecasting methods such as statistical, econometric, economic and technical/engineering approaches.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Provide analytical, programming, modelling and data management support to activities within the team
  • Document results and draw key conclusions using clear and concise language that is understandable to a diverse audience
  • Maintain quality documentation to capture improvements to procedures and processes
  • Mentor and support graduates and students in the performance of their tasks
  • Interpret and analyse market/industry information and identify issues that may affect the evolution of Australia’s energy industries and how the Australian economy uses energy
What You Will Bring To The Role
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant disciplines (economic, engineering, mathematics, operations research, etc)
  • Experience in gas and/or electricity consumption modelling or economic modelling in the energy sector
  • Experience working with analysis and visualisation tools (such as Excel, SQL, R, Python, Datbricks and PowerBI)
  • Sound knowledge of the energy environment and the political, legal and regulatory framework in which AEMO operates, or the ability to acquire such knowledge
  • Understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by AEMO with a rapidly transforming power system, particularly in relation to sector coupling, including but not limited to hydrogen, gas, transport, and the influence of decarbonisation
