About the Role

The Forensic Clinician role aims to build capacity and boost forensic mental health expertise and best practice within the adult mental health program. You will provide a resource of skills, knowledge and support for staff to enhance the service response for clients presenting with multiple complex problems. These will include serious mental illness, psychiatric and medical co-morbidities, substance abuse problems, and a history of offending and high risk behaviours.

The FCS programme will also have a special focus on improving outcomes for consumers on CSOs and NCSOs as well as streamlining communication and referral processes for consumers moving in and out of the community and the criminal justice system, specifically prisons and Thomas Embling Hospital.
  • Provide high quality face to face clinical assessments, treatment/management plans and interventions
  • Provide expert advice and support to improve communication and continuity-of-care for SVMH consumers transitioning through the justice system, the correctional system, the prisons and Thomas Embling Hospital.
  • Provide oversight, advice and function as a conduit for communication for colleagues around consumers on Custodial Supervision Orders and Non Custodial Supervision Orders.
  • Provide training, advice and support to enhance the quality of care for clients with complex needs and boost the calibre of risk assessment and risk management within SVMH.
  • Administer and participate in SVMH’s High Risk Review Panel.
Classifications for this position will range from:
  • RPN Grade 5 NP51 ($121,368 per annum pro rata)
  • OT/SW Grade 4 HR9 – HR12 or HR25 - HR28 ($118,232 - $130,270 per annum pro rata)
  • Psychologist Grade 4 PM1 – PM5 ($113,9110 - $136,344 per annum pro rata)
Your Contribution
  • A minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience within Mental Health Services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the forensic mental health.
  • Post-graduate qualifications in relevant area of speciality or progress towards same.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for mental health workers promoting a standard of excellence in clinical practice.
  • A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2014, Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and other relevant legislation.
  • Current National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain
