The Bdna Forensic team of business analysts, engineers and forensic subject matter experts work closely with law enforcement and forensic laboratories to improve forensic service delivery.

As part of this job, you will be responsible for ensuring we continue to deliver nationally endorsed, quality compliant, forensic and law enforcement software products through client engagement and providing scientific and forensic knowledge for product development, to support the forensic community across Australia.

What you'll do

The Forensic Scientist position includes the following responsibilities as appropriate to your role:

  • Engage with clients and stakeholders as a subject matter expert for scientific and laboratory implementations
  • Coordinate and conduct workshops and collaborative trials with industry partners and assist with the moderation of user group forums and client support
  • Work with Agile Delivery Methodologies processes, tools and techniques
  • Engage in business analysis responsibilities including
    • Process mapping utilising BPMN with detailed descriptions and system steps
    • Scenario and use case definitions
    • Gap analysis and requirements definition
    • Formal report writing
    • Transformational thinking
    • Client relationship Management
  • Assist with the development of training materials and training delivery
  • Work collaboratively across bdna organisation to ensure achievement of all team objectives
  • Assist with pre-sales activities as required, contribute to the development of marketing, sharing knowledge, expertise and ideas for improvement
  • Collaborate with engineering team and ensure compliance to all client requirements
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate changes to ways of working for continual improvement implementations
  • Be an ambassador for bdna’s forensic products and services
  • Conduct research and validate data to drive decisions in relation to the product roadmap and the identification of new opportunities

What you've got

  • Proven experience working in a scientific laboratory (a forensic laboratory, working in chemistry, toxicology or pathology is highly desirable)
  • Technical knowledge and the ability to provide insight into processes performed in a laboratory environment. Experience in multiple discipline areas is highly desirable
  • Ability to quickly acquire the skills to use Case Management and Laboratory Information Management software program
  • Knowledge of software development processes/lifecycle (optional)
  • Skills in online learning management Systems and associated tools and technologies (desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability in building and maintaining client relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including large group facilitation and presentations
  • Ability to understand, conceptualise and verbalise solutions
  • Ability to apply creativity to challenging situations with a strong outcome focus
  • Effective time management skills to manage priorities and meet client requirements and timeframes
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement 
  • Proven ability to multi-task and work in challenging environments
  • Ability to work as part of a team or work autonomously if required 
  • Strong desire to help improve society

Education and Experience

  • Degree or nationally recognised Forensic/Science qualification
  • Five years relevant experience (Forensic Laboratory highly desirable)
  • Background in chemistry, toxicology or pathology (highly desirable)


Work Eligibility

  • Must be an Australian Citizen and permitted to work permanently with no restriction on hours (Required)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearances e.g. NV1 security clearance (Required)
