Our Formulation Technician role ensures our products meet both our internal and external standards across three key areas of product development - stability, safety and efficacy. The role involves providing support for the development of products across our brands and coordination of any testing and stability requirements to support successful delivery and ongoing maintenance of innovative, safe and efficacious products to our customers.
Responsibilities
The Formulation Technician has responsibility for the testing of any formulations during development and post launch to ensure they meet our requirements in terms of product safety, efficacy, and consumer expectations.
Testing
Coordinate the requirements for testing of Go-To formulations and products through:
- Coordination and maintenance of the stability program including setup of protocols (under guidance from a technical lead), storage of products during testing and the ongoing testing based on agreed parameters (e.g. appearance, odour, pH etc.)
- Maintaining accurate documentation and reporting of test results
- Coordination the performance of clinical testing including protocol creation, supply of samples and documentation of results, under guidance from project lead.
- Preparation and despatch of samples for safety testing at external laboratories as required including preservative efficacy testing, HRIPT, SPF testing and regulatory compliance testing.
- Providing visibility and up-to-date information relating to any testing in progress, results, and due dates including interpretation of results, seeking stability time point approvals and escalation of “out of spec” or “out of trend” results
- Continuous improvement of stability and testing SOP’s
- Provision of products for external testing, status tracking and updating stakeholders on outcomes
- Collaborate with external clinical testing facilities, obtain quotes for studies and prepare/despatch samples for clinical efficacy testing and panel testing.
Laboratory Management Support
Support the Technical Manager in the management of the laboratory to ensure a safe and effective working environment by:
- Conducting and reporting of laboratory equipment performance testing, validation and maintenance
- Raw Material receiving, inventory and registration of new raw materials and ingredients from suppliers and manufacturers.
- Sourcing and purchasing of Lab equipment and consumables.
- Maintaining the laboratory, storeroom, and incubators areas in line with control SOPs
- Documentation setup and improvement
New Product Development Support
Support the Product, Research and Development team by assisting where resource requires by:
- Undertaking and/or assist formulation chemists with lab batches.
- Undertake testing for sustainability projects.
- Research and undertake projects that will benefit learning development, career, and experience growth.
- Participate in upcoming supplier meetings, webinars and/or conventions.
- Research substantiating for appropriate product / ingredient claims for marketing purposes.
- Provide support to the wider Product, Research and Development Team and other departments including Marketing, Customer Service and Finance as required.
About You, you will have…
- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemistry or related discipline
- Ideally 1 years' experience working within a laboratory environment
- Experience in the science of skincare or skincare product development testing would be beneficial.
- Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
- Ability to simplify complex scientific knowledge to communicate to wider team.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage workload independently and drive projects to completion, as well as work within a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated relationship building and influencing skills.
- Knowledge of stability, safety and efficacy testing.
- Up to date with the latest advances in the industry.
- Knowledge of Quality systems and standards.

This is a full-time 9 month Maternity Leave role and based in our Sydney office. (Flexible WFH policy, obviously. It’s 2024.)
