Job description

  • Sydney’s newest museum, opening in the Year of the Dragon
  • A career making opportunity to be part of the team responsible for opening the museum
  • Use your excellent community engagement skills to build our Friends community, connecting them to MOCA through meaningful events and activations

The Museum of Chinese in Australia (MOCA) in Haymarket, Sydney is set to be the newest museum in NSW and the only one focused on the stories and experiences of Chinese Australians from around the country.

For the past three years MOCA has been in a developmental phase which has seen us take an idea, being the need for a representative space for Chinese Australian’s and transform it into reality. We are now moving into a new phase which will see us commence programming in anticipation of the official opening of our space in the Year of the Dragon.

Our vision is to be a respected and trusted voice for the Chinese Australian community; to inspire and engage broad audiences while challenging current perceptions towards a more inclusive multicultural society.

We achieve this through an approach that focuses on the past, present and future. We actively tell the stories of ‘now’ alongside those of the past and, in doing so, endeavour to create a better future for all. We use different forms of storytelling, have a strong digital focus and blur the boundaries between the serious and the fun; all as a means to engage broad and diverse audiences.

We are supported by the City of Sydney, both state and federal governments and importantly, by the community itself. Through the strength of these relationships and our connection to community, MOCA is well positioned to play an important and ever-expanding role for both the Chinese and broader Australian communities.

There’s a strong sense of possibility, and we are seeking someone who can build on this to grow and engage our annual giving community, the Friends of MOCA.

We have a wonderful, highly skilled team, and a supportive Board, all committed to our vision to be a vibrant centre of research, creativity and culture. This is an excellent time to be joining us and a fantastic opportunity to make your mark and, in doing so, ensure a strong and thriving museum into the future.
