Position Summary

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

The Tangentyere Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) incorporates Element Four of the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018-2028 Safe, Respected and Free from Violence and is one of the five key components of the Northern Territory Government ten-year plan to reduce the impact of domestic, family, and sexual violence in our community.

The successful candidate will have completed tertiary studies in Social Work, Welfare Studies, Psychology or a related discipline with experience in assessment and intake and the delivery of Men’s Behaviour Change work.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who is committed to reducing violence against women and children in Central Australia and will engage with stakeholders to promote the MBCP and to ensure the program is culturally safe and accepted by individuals, families, and communities across the Alice Springs region.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) and Jesuit Social Services to deliver a MBCP that adheres to the Central Australian Minimum Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change programs.

• Under the direction of the Community Safety and Social Services Managers, assist to develop and implement protocols, policies, and procedures for the implementation of a MBCP in accordance with the Central Australian Minimum Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change programs and consistent with the principles outlined within the service agreement.

• Ensure the MBCP is a fully integrated component of the Northern Territory Governments Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018-2028 Safe, Respected and Free from Violence.

• Provide mentoring, support to MBCP Facilitators.

• Provide high quality intake assessments. Maintain relevant documentation including transparent, comprehensive case notes and contribute to written project reports as required.

• Develop and manage appropriate stakeholder relationships with local police, courts, and community corrections.

• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

• Completed tertiary studies in Social Work, Welfare Studies, Psychology, or a related discipline with the capacity to mentor and support other Group Facilitators.

• Demonstrated strong program delivery skills in a family violence program.

• Demonstrated understanding and commitment to a gendered analysis of men's use of family and domestic violence.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability positively to engage with men who have used violence in their intimate relationships and have been mandated to attend the MBCP.

• Ability to ensure the recognised Central Australian Minimum Standards for Men’s Behaviour Change programs underpins MBCP delivery.

• Demonstrated ability to perform intake, assessment, and group facilitation to a high standard.

• The ability to engage with Central Australian Aboriginal people.

• Demonstrated strong administration skills.

• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desirable

• Professional experience in counselling.

• One-year experience facilitating relevant group work and the ability to obtain a Graduate certificate in male family violence.

• Program experience working with Aboriginal Men in Central Australia.

• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.

• An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
