About us:
Blackwood Projects is an innovative commercial construction business, specialising in the commercial, education, heritage, civic and community sectors. Starting almost 10 years ago as a one-man band, we have now grown to a team project management professionals, construction supervisors and in-house carpentry experts and apprentices. We deliver projects valued from a few thousand dollars to $2 million including refurbishments, high quality fit-outs and new builds. Examples of our projects include the heritage refurbishment of the Paddington Substation; administration block refurbishments of the Holland Park SHS and Mable Park SHS, decking works in Southbank and Roma Street Parklands. We also have many valuable repeat clients. We are on the Brisbane City Council, QUT and Griffith University construction panels providing long-term security for our people. For more info on our varied projects see https://www.blackwoodprojects.com.au/projects/
Yet none of this would have been possible without our people. They are the real stars of our business – our people build relationships with our clients, solve their problems and are relied on for their integrity and honesty. In return we look after them. As well as training future leaders we also reward our people with flexibility, a great culture and fun along the way. For instance, last Christmas we wrapped up the year with a day of deep-sea fishing before taking our team and their partners for a night out. Our long-term vision is to be an award-winning builder providing innovative construction solutions - rejuvenating & transforming our community spaces.
About the role:
Due to our steady growth we are looking to fill a range of positions from construction labourers, apprentices and experienced carpenters with a broad skillset to assist in a range of unique and interesting projects ranging from heritage refurbishment work to school refurbishments, framing, cladding, fix-out, PWD and compliance upgrades. Note, if you are looking for new-build DOMESTIC WORK, this is definitely not the role for you.
You will report to our site supervisors and may be working across multiple projects in and around the Brisbane region. A typical day may commence assisting in a concrete pour before moving onto the next project where you finish your day repairing timber windows on a heritage building or framing new walls in an office fitout. We typically have a number of smaller projects on the go at once so generally no two days are the same. Carpenters will be expected to mentor and help develop our apprentices to bring them through as the future of the industry.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience and achievement as a trade-qualified carpenter with your own tools and transport (for carpenter role).
- A track record of delivering successful projects, on-time and on-budget with high-quality problem-solving (for carpenter role).
- Proven ability to interact effectively and professionally with both suppliers and customers.
- A track record of working well both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
- Some projects may require a blue card (working with children check) or police checks.
- A demonstrated commitment to continual improvement, innovation and learning.
Immediate starts available for the right candidate. Note we do ask for relevant documents to support your trade and updated references. Send through your resume and cover letter, letting us know why you would be a good fit with our team with respect to the role described to ****@blackwoodprojects.com.au.
