- Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems, etc. for various powered and rolling equipment such as, cars, trucks, and buses, farm equipment, and generators.
- Performs tune ups, brake jobs and other preventative maintenance on cars, vans, mini buses, and other powered rolling equipment; replaces common parts and makes adjustments.
- Designs, welds, and fabricates steel, aluminum and stainless steel fabricated projects using mig, tig, stick and gas.
- Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations.
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts.
- Repairing and replacing worn out and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, and referring to service manuals as needed.
- Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired.
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance.
- Diagnosing and testing parts with the assistance of computers.
Shared Responsibilities:
- Maintains appropriate service and repair records.
- Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.
- Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.
- Assists and serves as back up to other Facilities employees.
- Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
- Dispose burnt oil/ lubricants in accordance with government law.
- Use appropriate work uniform and safety gears and boots.
Occupational safety and health:
- Takes appropriate action to maintain own safety and health.
- Complies with all legislation, facility policies and procedures pertaining to occupational safety and health.
- Reports workplace risks and takes appropriate action to minimise the impact of these.
- Consistently uses correct manual handling techniques.
- Demonstrates a satisfactory level of knowledge of safe handling and storage of chemicals and other potentially hazardous substances/equipment.
- Contributes information to determination of occupational safety and health training needs to other staff as required.
- Attends scheduled occupational safety and health training as required to maintain knowledge and skills.
- Acts as a role model of correct occupational safety and health behaviours.
