Role Summary:
The Future EnergyLead Power SystemsControl and Automation Engineer is a newly created opportunity based at our Perth CBD office and which will be pivotal for delivering Synergy’s large-scale renewable energy generation and storage assets.
Reporting to the Future Energy Engineering Manager you would play a critical role in leading and shaping the development and implementation of advanced Power Systems Control and Automation standards and strategies while influencing both internal and external stakeholders to support the safe and on-time delivery of Synergy’s renewable energy and DER projects.
As a Lead Engineer you would be able to bring your technical expertise (across substation automation, generation control systems, protection systems integration, SCADA systems, etc.) and soft and leadership skills to the fore, while collaborating across a multidisciplinary Team, to advance Synergy’s strategic goals and zero carbon emission objectives.
Key responsibilities of the role(s) include:

  • Develop and implement Power Systems Control system strategies and standards helping Synergy to deliver it’s large-scale wind and PV power generation, energy storage, and DER projects.
  • Lead the creation and management of detailed Standards and knowledge base considering the various components comprising Synergy’s renewable energy facilities’ Control Systems.
  • Collaborate with grid and market operators and cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate renewable energy assets into Synergy’s, Western Power’s and AEMO’s SCADA Systems.
  • Serve as the primary SME for Power Systems Control and Automation supporting the development and integration of Synergy’s renewable energy assets.
  • Champion the continuous monitoring and evaluation of control systems’ performance to identify optimisation and efficiency improvement opportunities.
What you’ll bring:
  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical/Renewables Engineering or related field.
  • A combined minimum of 7+ years proven experience across all or some of the following areas:
  • power stations and substations automation systems
  • integration of substation protection systems
  • generator control systems and principles
  • SCADA systems
  • knowledge and understanding of communication protocols e.g., IEC61850, DNP3, Modbus.
  • Experience in developing and implementing internal engineering standards and general understanding of power system operations.
  • A current member of Engineers Australia to the level of Engineer or higher.
