The Role
Southern Ports is recruiting a General Hand to join their team at Port of Bunbury. Reporting to the Civil Maintenance Supervisor, the General Hand’s accountabilities and functions will include supporting the maintenance tradespeople with general maintenance and repair of port infrastructure and leases.
Key Duties
- Basic Machine servicing and pre starts
- Operation of machinery and equipment within skill set and/or High Risk tickets
- Preventative and breakdown maintenance of Southern Ports infrastructure, land and marine assets within capability and competence
- Equipment/product cleaning and site housekeeping to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Actively participate in and commit to scheduled training activities within capabilities
- Maintain Port grounds
- Support tradespersons and other staff as required
- Comply with all Port policies and procedures
- Actively participate in Procedural Reviews, Safe Work Practices, and Emergency Evacuation Drills
- Licenses:
- o Current WA Driver’s (E)
- o WA LR or Higher Heavy Vehicle (E)
- Certificates/Qualifications:
- o Fork Lift Certificate (E/D)
- o Working at Heights Qualification (D)
- o EWP Certificate (D)
- o Mobile Crane Certificate (D)
- o Dogging/Rigging Qualification (D)
- General Maintenance Activities (E)
- Mobile plant operations (D)
- Practical understanding of OH&S as it relates to the workplace (E)
- Good basic level of literacy and numeracy (E)
- Mechanically minded (D)
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role (E)
- Safety conscious (E)
- Able to meet the operational requirements of the business, including an ability to work overtime and weekends as required (E)
- The ability and willingness to work effectively and harmoniously within different teams (E)
- Able to take instruction and work without direct supervision (E)

Requirements
To be eligible for this 12 month Fixed-Term role, applicants must reside in or be willing to relocate to Bunbury and provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s licence, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
