About us - Murphy Partnership Tourello is a small family farm located in Tourello, approx. 15-20min north of Ballarat. We breed sheep for meat and sell directly to a group of local, repeat customers. We also have a rapidly growing horticulture component to the business, requiring us to harvest and pack large quantities of product on a weekly basis, year-round.
An ever-growing customer base and demand for products, together with current expansion projects and new opportunities on the horizon, means that we need an enthusiastic and competent employee to join our team. Work will predominantly be required at our property, however opportunities also exist for further external contract work in Ballarat and surrounds.
About you – You are an honest and hard worker who can take on new challenges, learn quickly, take ownership of a task, work independently, and use your initiative. You care about growing good, local food in a sustainable way.
Ideally, you will have some prior hands-on experience in farming, horticulture, labouring or transferrable industries, although this isn’t essential if you have a keen willingness to learn. In this role, you will have exposure to all types of work. This may either be core business tasks, or other projects which we are working on (we are always doing projects and involved in other business opportunities – not always farming-related. Work opportunities exist in these ventures also). The core role will include up to 3 days per week of the following tasks:
- Weeding and gardening maintenance of horticulture area
- Operation and routine maintenance of irrigation systems
- Application of mulch and fertilizer
- Record keeping of plants and harvests
- Propagation of new plants from seed, cuttings and/or root divisions
- Sorting of finished products to remove contaminants
- Packaging and weighing of products for sale
- Observation of safe working practices and training in our food safety program
- Have own transportation and current drivers’ licence.
Full time work may be available to applicants with a versatile skillset or willingness to learn new skills. This may include:
- Sheep work including marking, shearing shed work, vaccinations, daily checks, feeding
- Construction work including new sheds and greenhouses
- Fence replacement and maintenance
- Tree planting
- Tractor work
- Excavator work
- Welding and general fabrication
- Machinery and vehicle maintenance
- Driving and deliveries (including in manual vehicles and trailers)
- Landscaping, construction and gardening work
- Carpentry, concreting and related work
Remuneration range guide - $28-$40/hour depending on the applicant, skillset and employment structure. Flexible part-time or casual, with full-time options available for the right applicant. The exact working arrangement can be tailored to the right applicant - we are not worried about the exact arrangement, we are just busy and have a lot of work to do!
