General Labourer - Vacuum Excavation Unit

General Labourers with 'Can Do' Attitudes to support service locators, using Vacuum Excavation Units to verify utilities, be part of a great team that values its people. Opportunities to train and learn skills to advance to become a Service Locator.

General Labourers will be required to have experience in using hand tools, power tools and plant including non-destructive Vacuum Excavation Units (Truck - C/MR Class or Trailer mounted) to verify underground utilities/services supporting service locators.

Key Activities:

• Work safely, perform hazard analysis daily.
• Conduct general labouring activities, verifying and potholing utilities and site restoration.
• Current and valid driver’s licence C Essential - MR Beneficial.
• Be confident in the operation of hand & power tools, plant and equipment working in and around utilities and on active construction sites.
• Have experience in the civil industry, working in and around underground utilities, (Eg Driller Offsider or Leading Hand).

Full Time - Permanent Role

• Working hours are generally Monday to Friday with paid overtime for weekend and nightshift when required.
• Jobs are mainly in the Metropolitan area with some regional work and are spread across a broad range of jobs for Construction, Utilities and Local Government.
• Assisting locators on various sites.
• On the job service locating training are on offer for successful applicants.

For successful candidates looking for additional development, Abaxa have development pathway options.  These include opportunities to progress to learn underground utility service locating and / or complete their Civil Construction Certificate III while working on the job. 

We are looking for a safe driving record, people that enjoy working outdoors, and operating closely with one to two others in a small team or at times independently.

Essential Criteria                                 

• Dedicated to Safety First and a High Standard of Work
• Ability to follow procedures and report hazards
• Present fit for work daily and comply with the company drug and alcohol policy.
• Valid C class driving licence (as a minimum) MR preferred 
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
• Motivated worker that shows initiative, takes pride in their work, presentation and being part of a team.
• White Card – Occupational Health and Safety Training Card

Desirable Criteria                                 

• Concrete Saw - Operating Permit
• Experience in working in and around construction sites
• Relevant experience in operating Vacuum Excavation Unit
• Experience in related underground construction, civil or excavation field
• First Aid CPR/Workplace
