About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Director – Collins Class Submarine (CCSM), the General Manager (GM) Operations Execution is accountable for the performance and productivity of ASC’s Production workforce across all ASC sites and deployed locations. You will also be accountable for ensuring the provision of the required materials from the point of receipt into the Warehouse to the production workforce and the availability of the Maintenance Engineering team to ensure deck plate engineering support to the Production effort as required.

You will also provide direct leadership to the Head of Production (SA), Head of Production (WA), Head of Maintenance Engineering and Head of Warehousing, ensuring team members are provided with direction and attainable yet challenging performance targets.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the GM - Program Delivery, GM - Multi Class Sustainment (MCS) and the GM - Project Management Office (PMO), the role is accountable to ensure safe execution against the Collins-Class Integrated Master Schedule and associated earned value management system, to successfully deliver Collins-Class Sustainment projects to the agreed cost, schedule and quality targets. You will also be accountable for managing the overall operations workforce and ensuring resources are allocated to the highest priority areas within CCSM.

In doing this, you will contribute to ensuring the successful undertaking and completion of the CCSM program, including through aligning activities with ASC’s Strategy and assisting ASC to meet any relevant contractual deliverables. Working with the MCS Program leadership team, the position is required to maintain a strategic perspective of the entire business and consider a wide range of longer-term issues, opportunities and risks to ensure ongoing business success.

About you 

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, business, management, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior operational, project management or engineering role (or similar), preferably in Defence / shipbuilding sector
    • Knowledge and experience in leading production practices in a submarine or shipbuilding environment
    • Managing multi-disciplined resources including production personnel
    • Experience in industrial relations and proven negotiation skills
    • Strong proficiency in shipbuilding / Defence sector, including knowledge of current trends, practices, technologies, and regulatory environment
    • Demonstrated understanding of submarine safety requirements and maintenance practices including SUBSAFE
    • Ability to set priorities and achieve deadlines within a fast paced, dynamic environment

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
