Don’t miss this excellent opportunity for a fulfilling full-time GP/VMO role in a top rural practice where you will have the chance to put your full range of skills to use and at the same time be appropriately recognised and rewarded. The practice is looking for a doctor who can work 3-4 days per week plus participate in the hospital on-call roster.
AGPAL accredited, George Town Medical Centre has a strong ethos of delivering a high quality health service to the community. As well as being family oriented, the practice also provides occupational health and safety services to the nearby port and industrial sector, and exclusively looks after the residents of Ainslie Nursing Home at Low Head, a five minute drive away.
Doctors working at the practice provide support to the collocated community hospital. With 15 acute care beds in the hospital, the doctors value the opportunity to be able to admit their patients and continue their care whilst hospitalised.
George Town Medical Centre is also a teaching practice for undergraduates, junior and senior registrars and some international medical graduates. The practice has developed strong support structures and processes for new IMGs and enjoys an enviable reputation for the quality of its teaching, which is reflected in the high success rate of doctors passing their Fellowship exams. It is accredited for the teaching of both RACGP and ACRRM registrars.
There are currently five full-time GPs and seven part-time GPs working at the practice, with one registrar, and the practice is seeking another full-time doctor to complement the range of health services currently provided to the George Town community and surrounding rural areas.
Doctors at George Town Medical Centre work at least 8 sessions from Monday to Friday and share a roster for Saturday and Sunday/public holiday work (9am/10.30 am - 12pm and 5pm - 6pm, dependent upon patient demand). Some doctors may choose to work more than 8 sessions, however maintaining a good work/life balance is considered very important and is actively encouraged by the practice. Whilst after hours and emergency is also shared amongst the doctors on a roster basis, typically it is not onerous. Where possible, emergency cases are managed at the practice; otherwise they are taken to Launceston General Hospital. All on call is shared equally.
