This AMS has a rare and rewarding opportunity for a General Practitioner to join their multidisciplinary team in Derby, WA. This role is being offered on a permanent, full-time basis. We are seeking a suitably experienced and enthusiastic person, who is flexible and willing to work with a wide range of people. You will be responsible for providing clinical care in town-based and remote clinics, in line with regional best practice guidelines and protocols, and accepted professional standards. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the maintenance of high-quality health services ,ensuring continuous quality improvement and innovation in the delivery of comprehensive primary health services. You will provide support and training for other health staff and trainees, including Aboriginal Health Workers and medical students, providing a role model for health staff.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Throughout all aspects of professional practice, work with colleagues and clients in a framework of cultural safety which respects local cultural beliefs and practices.
- Provide clinical services to our clients in the town-based clinic as part of the regular GP roster, in keeping with regionally accepted best practice standards and protocols.
- Provide clinical services to clients in remote communities according to a roster of in keeping with regionally accepted best practice standards and protocols. Remote GP clinics are conducted in Jarlmadangah and Pandanus Park communities, which are reached by road, and in the Gibb River communities which are reached by plane.
- When required, provide home visits to palliative clients unable to attend the town-based clinic.
- Contribute to the development and expansion of preventive and population health programs delivered by the multidisciplinary team.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or an ATSI organisation in WA and/or in the Kimberley region and significant experience in rural/remote medicine and management in primary health care setting.

The Practice
Aboriginal Medical Service. DAHS looks after seven outlying clinics in Aboriginal communities. We drive to two of them, and fly to five of them. We do day trips only, and our remote nurses and Aboriginal health workers look after the remote clinics after hours and liaise with the RFDS if required. We also have population health programs for flu drives, adolescent health, rheumatic heart disease clinics, child health. Supported by Nursing and Aboriginal Health Workers.
The Package
Remuneration: $250,000 and benefits

Leave: 6 weeks annual leave, 10 days personal/sick leave, 2 weeks professional development leave
Other details: Salary packaging up to $30,000 per annum, Relocation allowance of up to $5,000, Mobile/Internet of up to $100 per month, On-Call allowance of $500 per week pro rata when rostered on, Medical Indemnity cover reimbursement.
