About the Opportunity

MFC is currently seeking multiple Generalist Solicitors at all levels of experience, from recent graduates to experienced professionals, to become integral members of our spirited Community Legal Centre. In this role, your expertise will be the cornerstone of promoting access to legal assistance, social justice, and human rights services.

Based in Mildura, VIC, with frequent travel to the communities we serve, this role is your avenue to contribute substantially to the legal empowerment of those in need. Your mission will be to provide free, confidential legal advice, casework, and education, becoming a key player in our community's legal enlightenment and advocacy for change.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality, free, and accessible legal service in the Murray Mallee region
  • Providing legal support and guidance to Solicitors
  • Supporting the Principal Solicitor and fulfilling their responsibilities in their absence
  • Engaging in legal advice provision, casework, and community legal education, whilst ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards
  • Actively participating in the promotion and delivery of our Community Legal Service to remote and isolated regions

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.

Remote and flexible work opportunities are also available for candidates with significant experience.

Mallee Family Care is also hiring for a Specialist Family Violence Solicitor.

About You

To qualify, you must have a current unrestricted practising certificate and be admitted as a legal practitioner in Victoria

Newly admitted lawyers with a background in or a demonstrated understanding of family violence, we also have openings for you.

Newgrads ready to embark on this rewarding journey are welcome to apply as well!

A current driver’s licence is essential due to frequent travel, and a willingness to be accommodated overnight when required.

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Experience in a range of legal services including but not limited to Credit and Debt matters, Family Law, Civil Law, Welfare Rights, and Family Violence
  • Proven track record of representing clients in courts and tribunals
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and manage a diverse caseload
