Job description

The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Genetic Pathologist or a Haematologist with Cytogenetics scope of practice vacancy.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. Pathology Services provides a comprehensive pathology service developed for a teaching hospital and academic environment.

The Service is a Tasmanian referral centre for molecular biology, cytogenetics, renal biopsies, electron microscopy, immunophenotyping, stem cell transplantation and many specialised microbiological, chemical, haematologic, and endocrine tests, and provides an outpatient specimen collection facility through Pathology South.

All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

Salary

$210,000 - $301,349 pro rata per annum + our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Provision of a fully maintained motor vehicle allowance of $27,535 pro rata per annum.
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 pro rata per annum
  • Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2022

*A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2022

  • Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award 2019.

Period of Employment

Fixed-term, part-time day work, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for approximately nine (9) months.

Essential Requirements
  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

  • Crimes of Violence
  • Sex Related Offences
  • Serious Drug Offences
  • Crimes involving dishonesty.

2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements
  • Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Genetic Pathology with Fellow of Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or relevant equivalent qualification with demonstrated scope of practice to cover the areas of testing in cytogenetics and molecular performed at RHH to ensure the NPACC supervision requirements are satisfied.
