THE ABRA PROJECT
 
Abra Mining Pty Limited (Administrator’s Appointed) is seeking a Geology Technician for a full-time position with the company based at our Abra Mine.
 
Abra is located approximately 220km north of Meekatharra, in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. The mine represents one of the world’s cleanest and largest standalone lead-silver projects capable of producing “Metal in concentrate” of between 90 – 100ktpa lead and 600 – 800kozs silver per year.
 
The Abra Mineral Resource geologically consists of multiple mineralised zones predominately consisting of an upper over-laying sediment bound Apron zone that sits above an underlying hydrothermal feeder system called the Core zone.
 
The most recent LOM plan (1.5Mtpa) based on the MRE2023, grade control model updates and ore mined to date contains 16.3Mt @ 6.9% Pb indicating a mine life of 10+ years.
 
The Abra Mine construction and commissioning was completed in late 2022 and production ramp up took place during 2023, the mine has now reached steady state production volumes.
 
The underground ore mined is processed through a conventional processing plant, to produce a high-grade lead-silver concentrate that is exported via the Geraldton Port.
 
THE ROLE
 
Reporting to the Senior Geology Technician, as Geology Technician, you will be responsible for underground technical work comprising face sampling, mapping, ROM sampling and management, sample submission to onsite and external laboratory.
 
The Geology Technician will also assist with the development and implementation of systems and procedures, assist with the core processing and management of underground drilling and mining contractors.
  • Conduct the face mapping and sampling, backs and walls mapping, stope inspections, and other geology related primary mine tasks in the underground gold mine;
  • ROM mapping and sampling;
  • Data entry tasks as required;
  • Assisting with the development of grade control procedures and leading the technician team to develop and improve the procedure database;
  • Completion of core preparation, basic geotechnical logging or core, and core sampling (including despatch);
  • Assisting mine geologists regarding field duties, data collection, and collation;
  • Weekly and monthly consumable stocktakes for the underground and core processing;
  • Ensuring compliance to all safety guidelines in the underground environment and in the core yard;
  • Train and mentor junior technicians;
  • Assist with QAQC tracking, documentation, and lab audits;
  • Completion of field and underground projects as designated by the Senior Geologist and/or Geology Superintendent.
ABOUT YOU

  • Current WA “C” class driver’s license, 4x4 wheel drive competency
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure completion of the assigned tasks
  • An outcome-focused attitude with well-developed self-management skills
  • The ability to meet established timeframes and solve daily problems that arise
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with learning from more experienced colleagues.
  • Advanced computer literacy skills with strong Microsoft Office suite skills
  • Working knowledge in LogChief logging software desirable.
  • Awareness of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations
  • A sound understanding of data management and validation processes.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the resources industry.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an underground environment.
  • Established approach to being able to effectively source, gather, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative data. 
  • Exposure to base metal deposits highly desirable.
