The Role

The Geometallurgical Technician is responsible for carrying out analytical, metallurgical and other procedures at the on-site laboratory to agreed standards of safety, efficiency and quality control to ensure that geometallurgical information is provided to stakeholders to enable mine and concentrator to operate efficiently and meet production targets. 

This is a full time 12-month Fixed Term FIFO position ex Perth to our Mt Holland site on a 4:3 roster.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Undertake all work in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements and Covalent policies & procedures.
  • Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment. Participate in laboratory SHE&C processes and initiatives. 
  • Engage in laboratory audits.
  • Ensure handling protocols for fibrous material are followed. 
  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported.
  • Participate in incident and near miss investigations where appropriate. 
  • Contribute to the Continuous Improvement culture of the laboratory.
  • Ensure procedures for every task are adhered to 
  • Carry out routine checks and calibrations of all instruments
  • Sample preparation
  • Dewatering/ Filtration of samples
  • Sieve sizing
  • LIMS Familiarity
  • Moistures, solids and SGs as required
  • Instrument Operation (XRD / Auto RC Chip Photography Station/ FC Bond Grinding Test Mill)
  • Equipment cleaning/readiness
  • Train fellow team members where necessary 
  • Maintain instruments as per schedule 
  • Report QC non-conformances to Lab Supervisor
  • Ensure effective working relationships are built and maintained with other departments and stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Write detailed shift and swing handovers to set the team up for success

Role Requirements

  • Cert IV in Laboratory Techniques desirable 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • First Aid certificate desirable
  • 2+ years experience in mining
  • Demonstrated experience following QA/QC systems
  • Experience with XRD (Panalytical) and/or FC Bond Grinding Test Mill
  • Experience with sample preparation: Pulveriser, Jaw/Boyd crusher and riffle splitter
  • Knowledge of Lasersizer and sizings with the sieve shaker (desirable)
  • Knowledge of sample preparation for Geological Logging and RC Chip Photography (desirable)
