Durkin specialises in Pavement Technology (Investigations, Testing, and Design), and Sub-Surface Utility Engineering (SUE Surveys).

Based in New South Wales, Durkin has provided investigation and engineering consultancy services throughout Australia. Currently we have a need for fGeotechnical/Pavement Engineers in our Pavement Technology Department.

What We Are Looking For

We are recruiting an experienced, innovative Geotechnical/Pavement Engineer to work  in our Pavement Technology department. Whilst we want to recruit from within Australia we welcome applications from overseas in particular South Africa, USA, UK, Ireland or any other countries where your Civil Engineering degree is recognised by Engineers Australia. We can sponsor people to come to Australia with the relevant qualifications and experience

We have a multi cultural team ( Australian, Irish, English, Iranian, Filipino, Sri Lankan) and we accept and cherish the differences that each culture 

We have a team of Engineers at Clark Air Base in The Philippines who assist our Senior Engineers in Syddey

We have our own NATA registered Construction Materials Laboratory, Truck Mounted Augers and Large Diameter Core Drills, HWD,  LWD, Vehicle Mounted GPR with 3 horn antennas plus Density Testing and other QA Conformance equipment to help gather the data to do innovative designs. The skills of our Senior staff in building pavements prior to joining Durkin and our specialised expertise in electronic utility locating and potholing, CCTV Drainage Investigations enable our Pavement Engineers to have a full 3D picture of the sub surface elements that could impact their design. This enables us to generate buildable designs that identify and manage design and construction risk for the whole supply chain from design to construction

To be successful in this roles you will:

  • Proven ability to design pavements and liaise with clients
  • Like a professional work environment, accountability, clarity of tasks and duties,  and delivering high quality services
  • The ability to mentor and train graduate engineers including Engineers based in the Philippines
  • Be resilient, and exhibit positivity at all times
  • Be prepared to travel 3-4 times a year to Clark Air Base for a week to train our Engineers there face to face

Some working from home is possible, for experienced and mature professionals

Job Tasks

Some of the specific job tasks that you will

  1. Scope Geotechnical Bore Hole Investigations, engage extrenal drillers and supervise their work on site and log the extracted materials
  2. Scope Pavement Investigations to gather the required data to generate innovative outcomes
  3. Review data as it is generated for accuracy and correctness and if there are any issues, liaise with the Technical Services Manager to correct, raise Opportunities for Improvement and ensure actions are effective
  4. Review  Visual Condition, FWD, Hi Pave GPR, Bore/Core Hole, CCTV and Utility Investigation data, determine causes of pavement failure and options to rehabilitate the pavement that are constructable.
  5. Carry out whole of life cost analysis for different design options including environmental benefits so that Clients have a sophisticated choice to make
  6. Organise post construction testing to assess if design criteria are being met
  7. Offer professional advice to Clients regarding their pavements and optimal ways to monitor, investigate and maintain desired condition
  8. Lead by example and mentor graduates in how to behave and perform as a Professional Engineer
  9. Maintain CPD and represent self and Durkin at industry events
  10. Liaising with Senior Laboratory Technician ton ensure all sampling is traceable and completed as per the relevant test methods
 
Minimum Requirements

A Degree in Civil Engineering and preferably a Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering

Membership of Engineers Australia (or the ability to attain it)

5 years post graduate experience in Pavement Design, and expertise in Circly, Processing and Back Calculation of FWD data, interpretation of Bore/Core/DCP data as per Australian Pavement Design Guide

Familiarity with all Specifications/test methods associated with gathering data/samples on site and in the laboratory

Ability to write clear, accurate and well structured factual or Pavement Rehabilitation Reports

Able to work effectively in a team.

A current NSW C-Class drivers licence 

Strong Verbal and Written Communication skills

Client Focus

Highly regarded skills will include (we can train in this regard):

Familiarity with NATA rules and regulations

Ability to review GPR Pavement layer data and determine pavement layers, voids, delamination, stripping of bitumen, high levels of moisture

Leadership ability
