The Opportunity:
As the GIS Officer, you will be a key member of the Works and Engineering Services team and be responsible for supporting the development, maintenance and improvement of Council’s Geographic Information System (GIS). You will bring your considerable GIS experience to produce spatial products including maps, map layers, visualisations and other representations that will contribute to a meaningful community experience and support the Council to deliver on its strategic asset management objectives.
Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in strategic planning and development of information platforms which are dependent on GIS, to enable more efficient service delivery by Council.
  • Undertake data management functions that ensure Council’s spatial datasets, in particular land, property and environmental layers are accurate and reliable
  • Prepare asset-based GIS reporting for internal and external submissions such as financial valuation reporting and annual works programs.
  • Deliver a high level of service to the organisation through the provision of informed GIS advice and recommendations
  • Support the delivery of GIS project and technology implementations and be actively involved in projects that promote and support innovation and business improvement within the organisation.

What we are looking for:

You will have experience in the development, maintenance and operation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to deliver a service that is effective, efficient and responsive to the needs of the organisation. Sound knowledge and skills within GIS systems and applications such as ArcGIS is required.
You will have strong communication (written and verbal), presentation and engagement skills with the ability to interact with people of all levels, with varying backgrounds and disciplines in order to reach outcomes. Tertiary Qualification in Geographic Information Systems is preferred
