St Vincent de Paul Society Qld (the Society) is one of Australia’s most iconic faith based Not for Profit organisations. Founded in 1894 in Queensland by individuals who wished to put their faith into action, the organisation is built on strong Christian values and plays a critical role in providing unwavering support for those who suffer deprivation, marginalisation, and inequality. As a lay Catholic organisation, they aspire to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope, and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.
  
The Society in Queensland is represented by more than 6,400 members and volunteers and over 650 employees and plays a vital role in providing assistance to individuals and families experiencing hardship. Their work encompasses a wide range of services, including cost of living assistance, emergency and disaster relief, specialist homelessness services, drug & other addictions services, child & family services, community housing, , education support,  and other specialist social inclusion services. The society operates recycled retail stores, commonly known as Vinnies shops, where donated goods are sold to fund and support their charitable activities.

Members actively engage with communities to offer practical assistance, a listening ear, and a hand-up to those in need. About the role:

As the GM People & Culture (GMPC), you are responsible for providing executive leadership for people and culture strategies as well as the oversight of all people related matters. This includes performance and talent management, learning and development, workers compensation and return to work, organisational design and development, engagement, reward and recognition, HR Systems and reporting and consultation and change management. This also incorporates shared services to the subsidiary Vinnies Housing and the Society in the Northern Territory.
  
 
Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  
Executive Leadership

  • As a core Executive Leadership Team, contribute fully to lead and deliver on the organisation’s strategic and operational ambitions, business plans and budgets.
  • Bring collaborative and cross-organisational leadership and contribute to a positive culture and high achieving team.
  • Provide Executive level, expert and influential HR advice and expertise across the organisation including up to and at State Council level.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for the Executive Team to build leadership capability, manage performance and enhance employee engagement.
  • Prepare regular reports to the State Council as required.
  • Identify, report, and manage risk associated with areas of responsibility.
  
People and culture strategy
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Society’s People and Culture strategic priorities to improve team engagement in line with the organisation’s goals, values and objectives.
  • Contribute at a strategic level to identify HR and resourcing priorities and recommend appropriate people management solutions in support of the Society’s strategic direction.
  • Lead the delivery of the Society’s equality, diversity and inclusion commitment to promote positive culture change across our organisation.
  • Develop and implement the Society’s culture program and make recommendations for continuous enhancement.
  • Deliver HR related projects as directed by the CEO.
  
People policy and practice
  • Lead and deliver professional service excellence in the key processes that enable recruitment, retention, learning and development, recognition and reward of the Society’s people, creating a people experience which reflects the organisation’s values and promotes personal and professional learning and growth.
  • Ensure all Human Resources and Learning & Development policies, processes, systems, and infrastructure are in place to support organisational capability.
  • Ensure effective employee rehabilitation and return to work programs are implemented and provide case management as required.
  • Lead the implementation of the Society’s suite of HR policies and procedures and amendments to policies in line with employment laws and regulations and protect the organisation from risk.

The Person:
  
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Human Resources leader with over five years of experience in senior HR roles, particularly within the Social Services or Not-for-Profit sector. This individual holds recognised tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or Business Management and possesses detailed knowledge of contemporary HR and industrial relations legislation and active membership of relevant professional associations. They have demonstrated expertise in EBA negotiation, familiarity with the SCHADS award, and substantial experience in developing and leading HR strategies, managing complex executive-level functions, and inspiring and developing a team of People and Culture professionals.
  
The successful candidate will excel in leadership with a focus on empowerment, transparency, and consistency, possessing strong business acumen with capabilities in strategic planning, continuous improvement, and change management. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record in enhancing end-to-end people processes and systems, leading successful structural and cultural change projects, and driving equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging throughout an organisation.
