Job description

As the Government Benefits Programme Officer your role in the team is the single point of contact and subject matter expert in regard to the Australian Government’s range of concessions, allowances and supplements to eligible individuals and families.. You will respond to enquiries from a large regionally dispersed internal client group, providing advice and guidance to ensure that customers receive correct information and maximum entitlements.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct a market scan of Commonwealth, State and Local Governments benefits, subsidies and rebates available to customers, highlighting eligibility criteria to apply;
  • Conduct an end-to-end review of policies and process to ensure customers are receiving all their available entitlements, and where necessary improve the offering to all customers;
  • Design a framework that captures all benefits, subsidies and rebates available to customers at different points of their lives;
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of products, services, and Legislation relative to the entitlements administered by, but not limited to, the Department of Services Australia, Department of Social Services, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the Department of Health and Aged Care and the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the Guardianship system, government service providers and public sector more broadly to optimise engagement, consultation, negotiation and facilitation of nationally agreed approaches to policy issues affecting state trustees;
  • Establish and maintain a network of government service providers to facilitate the provision of services in relation to disability and residential aged care;
  • Partner with internal clients to ensure that customers receive timely and correct information with respect to by the various concessions, allowances, and supplements available; and
  • Ensure that controls are in place to limit the risk of eligible entitlements being missed and ensure these controls are regularly monitored.
