Tremaur Medical Centre is the evolution of over fifty years of general practice medical care, currently located amongst the medical precinct of Victorian architecture along Elphin Road, in central Launceston. Continued expansion of the practice from it’s more recent inception 20+ years ago following the relocation of Dr Chris Luttrell after closure of the university health service, the practice has experienced slow but steady growth with relocation of a number of local GPs to work within the family based, mixed billing practice. We are now looking for additional like-minded general practitioners to join our team.
The PositionTremaur Medical Centre is looking for an experienced general practitioner with an interest in family-based medicine. Currently the practice has a full-time practice principal and a handful of doctors, most of whom spread their workload between part-time general practice at Tremaur in addition to professional activities outside the practice. The practice has always encouraged diversification of health provision and encourages development of special interest areas. We are able to offer considerable flexibility in consulting hours and have tried to manage appointments around family and other commitments. We are closed on Sat Sun and Public holidays. There is minimal on-call requirement.
The OrganisationTremaur is a privately owned and operated practice lead by Dr Chris Luttrell, who commenced his general practice in Launceston over thirty years ago – continued expansion of the practice forced relocation to its current position at ‘Hawthorn’ 67 Elphin Road, a grand Victorian home which has undergone extensive renovations and extensions in order to provide comprehensive patient care. Five consulting rooms are within the main building, along with administrative services and a purpose built 2 bed nurse treatment area. The doctors are supported by full-time RN’s providing both nursing and chronic disease care.
The practice uses Best Practice Software for all medical notation, is a mixed billing practice with bulk billing for chronic disease management, immunisation clinics, children 12 and under and full-time student attending the University of Tasmania and Newstead College. Bulk-billing outside these practice guidelines is at the discretion of the doctor. Practice demographics focus on young professional families, and while we are located within an older established suburb of Launceston, geriatric care is a smaller part of our business than many other nearby practices. As a practice we have no service agreements with any local nursing homes, although individual care is by agreement with the doctor. A full range of general practice services are offered, and the practice encourages development of any special interest areas.
We are hoping to find a well-rounded general practitioner to join our team, with the hope of establishing and building a family based medical practice they can call their own, but with the support and administrative assistance to lighten the load. The practice offers fully serviced rooms and facilities in return for a management fee based on percentage of earnings.
