cs0484052 Graduate Decision Support Hydrologist http://www.watercareer.com.au/jobs/8341-bureau-of-meteorology/84052
Australia is regularly affected by severe weather events. These events are growing in frequency and severity, leading to increased economic impact, vulnerability and potential magnitude of harm.
To address this, the Bureau of Meteorology has undertaken significant steps to deliver a more customer focussed, integrated and resilient national operation. This is an exciting direction for the Bureau which is changing the way we deliver services to Australian communities.
The Community Services Group is comprised of Decision Support Services (DSS), Environmental Prediction Services (EPS), and National Production Services (NPS) which have been configured to enable scalable, national and resilient services. The DSS program leads customer engagement within the Community Services Group with an overarching mission to deliver tailored, relevant and timely information to enable better decision making.
Operating with a national capability, the program is accountable for leading engagement with the Australian community and the emergency management sector. This is being delivered by two dedicated teams: Hazard Preparedness and Response (HPR) and Community Engagement (CE).
The Graduate Decision Support Hydrologists will be based in Darwin and/or Perth and will report to the HPR Managers – Northern Territory and Western Australia, respectively. The successful candidate(s) will have a unique opportunity to help grow the Bureau’s capabilities and support the development of the Total Flood Warning System (TFWS) in NT & WA.
To be successful in this role, you will display a dedicated curiosity and comprehensive understanding of how the evolving weather, flood, ocean and climate landscape impact emergency management and first responder communities. You will require a deep understanding of hydrology with a complementary knowledge (or capacity to develop) in meteorology, climatology and/or community engagement. You will work closely with colleagues in EPS to deliver a seamless service to our emergency management partners.
