Job description

About usSuccession Ecology is a multi-faceted environmental business with four key areas of focus: ecological consulting, environmental research and development, landscape-scale restoration, and the production and sale of native seed. We focus on finding unique solutions in nature and we are passionate about applying ecological processes to achieve cost-effective outcomes for our clients. Our philosophy is, why engineer a solution when nature can do it better? We specialise in arid ecosystems and are passionate about developing new and innovative techniques to apply to ecosystem management. Our 22 strong company is intensively collaborative, and includes ecologists, botanists, agronomists, and environmental scientists. We trust our employees to make the right decisions to deliver projects from start to finish and we offer them continual support to ensure they grow in their roles. We strongly focus on culture, values, team building, and business growth. Succession Ecology has been nationally recognised by winning the 2023 Telstra Best of Business, Promoting Sustainability Award for South Australia and the 2024 CORE Innovation Hot 30 Sustainability Innovation Award. The Ecology department's primary focus is environmental risk management for large-scale developments including wind and solar farms. We develop strategies to avoid, minimise, or offset environmental risk. Among other projects, members of the Ecology department carry out NVC and DIT assessments, EPBC Self-assessments and referrals, and write management plans for threatened species, coastal protection, weed control, and many other topics.Succession Ecology is rapidly expanding our passionate, diverse and value-driven Ecology department. We are recruiting at all levels, all of which include fieldwork:
  • Graduate Ecologists, with relatively little professional consulting experience.
Graduate Ecologists build their capacities through a two-year in-house training program, in which they support consulting projects to achieve key ecological outcomes. In the second year of their training, they lead appropriately sized projects and contribute to complex projects.
  • Ecologists, with five years of professional consulting experience.
Ecologists develop and lead consulting projects to achieve key ecological outcomes. They are a core part of the passionate and diverse team committed to Succession Ecology's values. They lead multiple projects and share their skills through mentoring Graduate Ecologists.
  • Senior Ecologists, with 10 or more years of professional consulting experience.
Senior Ecologists develop and lead complex consulting projects to achieve key ecological outcomes. They write quotes for detailed projects and manage the personnel and budgets of multiple projects. They mentor and supervise Ecologists and Graduate Ecologists, building a passionate and diverse team committed to Succession Ecology's values.About youYou enjoy being part of a diverse professional team, are respectful and have a positive attitude. Through experience and training, you have developed skills in relevant areas such as ornithology, botany, mapping, soil science, or aquatic, marine or coastal ecosystems. You bring enthusiasm for learning and engagement with colleagues and clients and are adaptable to a fast-paced work environment. Your role will include field work in locations throughout Australia (typically in SA), and office work based in Edwardstown, SA.Succession Ecology encourages and values diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
