About the role and you
The Safer Smarter Infrastructure (SSI) Business Group believe that they can reduce harm to all people by making transport infrastructure safer, they do this by challenging, testing, forming and applying international best practice in road safety. The SSI team based in Melbourne is seeking a highly motivated Graduate Engineer with a strong transportation infrastructure safety focus to join our team. The successful candidate will be willing to challenge the status quo, innovate, and deliver outcomes in the pursuit of technical excellence in either designing/ traffic and/or safety within the transportation infrastructure arena. The SSI team offer the ability to be involved in projects across Australia to and the possibility of international project works as part of NTRO’s expanding international presence. Working with industry and government we proactively progress the adoption of new design and traffic methods and to save lives and improve the efficient movement of goods and people.

You would be joining an integrated and dynamic national team that make a difference by saving lives and reducing road trauma using innovative and practical transport solutions.

In this integral role, you will have the scope to contribute to project delivery, receive mentoring from industry experts, and deliver quality outputs with the wider SSI team on a Local, State, National and potentially International scale.

We are looking for talented applicants who can offer practical ‘can do’ skills with a desire to challenge the status quo and make a difference in making our transport safer for all.

Our opportunity:
Learn to undertake technical aspects of a project.
Undertake applied research using a first-principles approach to provide innovative and practical solutions that can be implemented to improve transport safety.
Contribute to new and effective transport safety policy and technical guidance for industry practitioners.
Contribute to teams providing expert consulting and technical advice to government, road managers, industry, and other stakeholders.
Be coached and mentored by industry experts in transport safety as part of wider development program.

We seek an individual who has:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering field (civil, transport, safety, traffic and/or road design)
A minimum of 1-3 years relevant experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines; transport safety, road/rail/ports & airports design or traffic engineering
Ability to apply first principle’s thinking to unstructured problems.
Report writing skills including strong proficiency in English and grammar.
Demonstrated ability to project lead a team to a successful outcome.
Ability to identify key areas of legislation, standards, and guidance.
Some knowledge in drafting technical reports / contribute to tenders/ proposals
