About our Graduate Nurse Program
The Women's Graduate Nurse Program provides Graduate Registered Nurses with endless opportunities to learn and consolidate their skills! This covers a range of areas, including:
- Gynaecology and Women's Cancer Services, 5 North
- Neonates including Special Care Nursery and High Dependency Unit
- Perioperative Services, including Theatre, Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care Units
- Day Surgery Unit
Placements in our Graduate Program are for either 12 months in one area, or a combination of two areas. Supported by the leadership of a senior nurse, a regular day will see you:
- Provide individual women-centred care including the recognition of normal and abnormal signs and symptoms obtained through observation, interviews and physical exams
- Communicate patient assessments and care plans effectively to the nurse in charge, the nursing team and relevant members of the multidisciplinary team
- Collaborate with members of the team to identify patient care options and plans
- Appropriately assess, plan, implement, evaluate and contemporaneously document nursing care
About you
You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who enjoys working as a part of a supportive, collaborative team committed to excellence in patient care.
To join our Graduate Program you’ll have:
- Eligibility for AHPRA registration by February or May 2025
- A current Working with Children Check
- Eligibility to register with the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) Allocation and Placement Service (APS)
- A strong desire to work at the Women’s and contribute to our goal of creating healthier futures for women and babies

How to apply
We offer an intake into our Graduate Nurse Program in February and May, and applications are now open for both intakes of the 2025 program.
Before you apply, please ensure you:
- Are eligible for registration with AHPRA by February or May 2024
- Have not previously completed a Graduate Nurse or Midwife program
- Are eligible to be registered with PMCV/APS
- Agree that, as part of your role as a nurse, to care for women seeking a termination of pregnancy, as well as administer medicine in this process
Please include the following in your application:
- A one page cover letter addressed to Claire Watts (include your PMCV/APS registration number if you have one)
- A resume which includes details of your clinical placements
- A certified copy of your transcript of results or interim results (whichever is available)
- 2 x recent clinical appraisals - one must be in an acute setting
- A completed Placement Options Preference Form (this can be found on the Women's website)
