Perth Racing (the trading name of the Western Australian Turf Club) is the premier thoroughbred racing club in WA, operating both Ascot and Belmont Park racecourses. As a multi-faceted racing, entertainment and event business, we stage up to 100 race meetings per year, including the high-profile Melbourne Cup Day at Ascot, Pinnacles series, Perth Cup and The Quokka.

The role

We are currently looking for a high-level Graphic Designer to coordinate the creative development, evolution and execution of Perth Racing’s brand presentation, corporate collateral and promotional design to ensure quality, consistency and relevance.

Ours is a fast-paced, sports and hospitality environment – great design is an essential part of our brand proposition, and we can promise you an interesting mix of high-profile work, from the conceptualisation of multi-layer advertising campaigns around major events, to on-course collateral and everything in between!

This role requires a strong design generalist across digital and traditional media who is willing to be hands-on through all stages of the creative and production process. You will need to maintain a high level of output at short notice, whilst switching between a variety of mediums and design practices. 

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, you will plan, coordinate and deliver an effective internal design service for all departments, including (but not limited to) carnival concepts, assets for the website and social media, electronic direct mail, signage, point of sale, corporate literature and internal communications materials etc.

You will be a key point of contact for external agencies and suppliers including advertising agencies, media owners, Perth Racing partners, printers, signage companies and merchandise providers in proactively overseeing, coordinating and delivering design solutions on time and to budget. 

Due to the carnival-based nature of our calendar, our Graphic Design Services Executive will need to identify, establish and nurture a preferred roster of freelancers and agencies so projects may be outsourced as required at key pressure points.

This opportunity is initially offered on a 4 - 6-month maximum term contract basis, with the possibility of renewal / permanent status.

Skills and experience

Education/Certificates/Licences

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field would be desirable. 
• A minimum of 6 years’ experience in a similar role.

Experience and Knowledge

• Excellent communication skills, together with the ability to develop internal and external client relations.
• Knowledge of creating and managing all aspects of visual identity / brand guidelines.
• Demonstrable track record in conceptualising, developing and delivering creative concepts, strategies and campaigns. 
• Experience in managing budgets, sourcing quotes as required and managing design solutions to conclusion.
• Significant experience of delivering creative design solutions, involving the successful navigation of stakeholder requirements, messaging hierarchies, film and photography, third-party association, corporate extension etc.
• Experience of creating innovative content to drive awareness, engagement, growth and performance across both traditional and emerging digital / social media platforms.
• Significant previous experience in a creative design role - ideally in hospitality, retail or entertainment. 
• Significant previous experience of planning and effectively managing workflow, outsourcing to preferred suppliers at key pressure points as required, and maintaining effective oversight of all design projects.   
• Appetite for professional development to stay on top of and ahead of creative design technology and advancement (the most current example being the use of AI).
• Experience in Adobe Creative Suites, HubSpot and other marketing automation would be desirable, along with knowledge of web content management systems.
