We have an opportunity for an experienced Grounds and Maintenance Officer to join our team at The Henry Canberra, a retirement village nestled in the picturesque suburb of Higgins in Belconnen. We are seeking an experienced individual who will thrive in a hands-on role. Your primary focus will be maintaining our village and gardens to the highest standard, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for our residents and visitors.
Reporting to the Management team, your duties will encompass a variety of tasks, including:
- Performing general and preventative maintenance tasks around the village in an organised and proactive manner
- Conducting repairs and maintenance to village facilities (including but not limited to painting, repairing walls, doors, windows, minor carpentry work, troubleshooting plumbing issues, cleaning etc)
- Undertaking scheduled preventative maintenance, as well as corrective maintenance tasks
- Managing lawn and grounds maintenance (including but not limited to seeding, topdressing, fertilising, mulching, raking, sweeping, whipper snipping, trimming, weeding and spraying of pesticides/herbicides etc)
- Planting and maintaining trees and gardens, including pruning for shrubs and other plants as required
- Minor landscape construction – retaining walls, garden edges, paving, irrigation infrastructure
- Engaging with residents and visitors in a customer focused manner, fostering positive relationships
- Completing administrative and reporting duties associated with maintenance activities
- Assisting the Management team with additional tasks as needed
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Hands-on experience in building and grounds maintenance, showcasing attention to detail
- Initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work autonomously
- Problem solving skills and a commitment to safe work practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with a customer-centric approach
- Adaptability to work in various weather conditions
- A valid drivers licence and proof of Australian work rights
- A current national police or willingness to obtain one
