At the Secretariat of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference we have lovely and extensive gardens set in Braddon. We are currently seeking a Grounds and Maintenance Officer to work approximately 15 hours per week to ensure that the Grounds and buildings are maintained in a safe and well-presented manner. This would suit someone who is semi retired, has caring responsibilities or just loves gardening. This is a hands on role mostly performed outside and would suit someone reasonably physically fit and active.
The role
- Mow lawns at varying frequencies during the year to ensure that they look well-trimmed and healthy.
- Undertake general maintenance and repairs including changing lightbulbs, patching walls, installing wall hooks, etc.
- Care for all gardens, taking all necessary action to maintain the healthy state of plants and trees.
- Sweep and blow paved areas and rake gravel areas to maintain a neat and tidy appearance.
- Take all necessary actions to ensure that garden equipment is maintained in good operating condition.
- Purchase fuels for equipment and garden supplies as required.
- Use all equipment and chemicals and perform work in accordance with Work Health and Safety standards including the use of personal protection equipment as required.
About you
- Experience in grounds keeping or gardening
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good knowledge in the use and Maintenance of garden equipment
- Ability to solve problems
- Experience in horticulture or as a handy person will be highly regarded.
