Located in an ideal rural setting in the heart of the Herbert River Valley, the College is approximately 30 km North West of Ingham and situated on Warrgamay land. The main industries are sugarcane, forestry and cattle. Abergowrie is close to Wallaman Falls which is the highest single-drop waterfall in Australia and the beautiful Broadwater National Park.
About the role
St Teresa's Catholic College, Abergowrie is seeking an experienced and dedicated Groundsperson. This is a full-time, permanent position commencing as soon as practicable.
The Grounds person contributes to the effective and efficient operation of St Teresa's Catholic College, Abergowrie by providing a high level of maintenance and development of the facilities. The Grounds person will work within a team to provide resource management, a safe and pleasant environment for students and employees and create a physical environment that is conducive to learning and safe student movement. The Grounds person ensures that a high standard of the safe play area is maintained.
Key Accountabilities
Basic maintenance (including preventative maintenance) to equipment, grounds and gardens by schedules and routines or as directed by the Principal/Finance Secretary/WHS Officer including:
- Lawn and garden establishment and maintenance
- Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Operation of a specialised range of machinery e.g. ride on mower, GOAT, pole and chain saws and tenant machine
- Use of herbicides and pesticides, compliant with safe work practices
- Control and maintenance of stores and facilities
- Assisting with building maintenance, painting, general cleaning and washing down of facilities
- Carry out minor repairs to the school's property and equipment as requested
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment for school functions
- Ensuring all work tasks comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements by liaising with the WHS Officer
- Other duties as determined by the Principal/Finance Secretary/WHS Officer.
- Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
