To support our commitment to a high standard of health, safety and environmental compliance and performance, an exciting opportunity exists for a passionate and highly motivated Health, Safety, Environment and Quality professional to join AEC.
Supporting multiple business units and a portfolio of construction projects in the renewable energy sector, you will be responsible for supporting, promoting, influencing and driving our Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) strategy and performance culture across Australia and New Zealand.
Reporting to the CEO and as part of the SLT, this hands-on leadership role will work closely with senior management, site managers, employees, clients and external stakeholders to embed a strong culture of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
Leveraging your expertise in major projects and a deep understanding of HSEQ regulations and industry best practice, this pivotal role requires an experienced HSE professional with exceptional leadership, communication and coaching skills.
This is a HQ based role with regular site travel as required in line with operational requirements.
Key Accountabilities will include:
- Provide effective leadership and expertise in developing, promoting, implementing and complying with the HSEQ policies, procedures and practices of the organisation
- Lead the design of HSEQ strategy, promote continuous improvement of the HSEQ systems and practices, including strategies to address critical risks and emerging performance trends
- Provide expert advice and support to address specific hazards and risks across the business
- Manage the company’s focus on safety and quality, liaise with stakeholders on HSEQ matters, and ensure compliance with WHS and environmental legislation
- Assist with and oversee investigations and manage the integrated management system (IMS) in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other governance standards
- Coach and advise team members in root cause analysis, support field/project HSEQ teams, and ensure uniform knowledge and delivery of HSEQ systems across the business
- Prepare HSEQ reports, procedures, and management plans, and oversee the development of project-specific HSEQ plans
- Conduct risk assessment across operations to identify risks and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented, monitored and outline findings and recommendations
- Develop risk profiles and continuity plans, acting as a key Crisis Management participant
- Prepare, disseminate and deliver information required for toolbox talks, safety alerts, campaigns, and staff training and development
- Respond to incident and injury notifications, attending site and conducting post incident investigations, preparing investigation reports, recommendations and communications
- Research and prepare health and safety plans, policies, procedures and related documentation to ensure compliance with legislation
- Act as chair for the Company-wide health, safety and environment committee meetings
- Be our champion for HSEQ change, knowledge share and continuous improvement
- Deliver HSEQ related strategic initiatives and campaigns as agreed with the CEO
- Mentor, support, and train colleagues at all levels of the business
Key skills and experience required for you to thrive in this role, will include:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior HSEQ leadership role, with exposure to higher-risk industry sectors (civil construction, mining, energy etc)
- Strong practical knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO45001 systems, and WHS legislation, including experience in conducting compliance audits, risk assessments & ICAMS
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or higher, with lead auditor qualifications
- High level of working knowledge of modern HSEQ systems, organisational culture and continual improvement principles and practices
- Well-developed skills in cross-organisational leadership, influencing, stakeholder management, and genuine team player
- Resilient and emotionally intelligent, able to build effective relationships at all levels
