Haematology Principal Scientist

  • Full Time ongoing role - 80 hours per fortnight with monthly paid day off

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Haematology Laboratory is a busy, modern laboratory performing a range of diagnostic investigations.

The Victorian Department of Health has recently announced a program of reforms across the public pathology system in Victoria.

As part of these reforms, the pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will through a change process that is in progress transition to a new separate public pathology entity. The new model for delivering public pathology services will present an exciting opportunity to improve the scope, scale and reach of pathology services and testing capability to all Victorians.

As this role is with the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the successful candidate for this role will be initially employed by the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Once the change process has been completed and the new public pathology entity is fully formed, which is anticipated to be in late 2024, this position and the successful candidate’s employment (including terms and conditions of employment) will transition to the new public pathology entity. Please contact us via the details below if you have any questions on the pathology reforms and transition of this role to the new entity.

We are seeking a Scientist with extensive diagnostic laboratory experience who will lead a committed team with a passion for Haematology and pride yourself on quality and service excellence in laboratory testing.

Your new role: 

  • Lead the physical, financial, human capital, scientific, technical and operational aspects of the Pathology Service.
  • Work collaboratively within the leadership team as well as with key stakeholders to support high quality service delivery.

About You:

  • You are an experienced scientist with great leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You have experience in laboratory management and leadership, including staff supervision, human resource management, and financial management skills.
  • You demonstrate a commitment to service development and improvement initiatives.
  • You work collaboratively and support a safe work culture.
