Launched in Australia in 2015, Nomad Design Tackle designs and creates fishing tackle and outdoor products that are innovative and crafted from decades of on water experience.
The brand emerged from the globally successful Nomad Sportfishing charter operation founded by Damon Olsen in 2001 in the remote outer Coral Sea, a world first operation taking guests on the fishing trips of a lifetime in remote areas. After years of making the most of lures that simply didn’t meet required standards, Damon began creating lures crafted to withstand the predators of the Coral Sea.
Nomad Design launched in the USA saltwater market in 2018 and has become a dominant brand in this market. In 2022, Nomad Design launched into the US freshwater sector and expanded the range of products for the large inshore market. Both of these markets present significant opportunities for sales growth for the brand. Nomad Design is experiencing increasing demand in the European and Middle East markets and these markets present another huge growth opportunity for the brand.
Several approved and pending design patents distinguish many products as being truly innovative and Nomad has carved out significant market share through simply working better by design. Its lures are the culmination of real experience crafted by forces of nature and tested to the limit.
About the Role:
The next step in Nomad’s growth story is to appoint the company’s first “external” CEO, enabling Managing Director Damon Olsen to focus his efforts on brand and product development, innovation and marketing strategy, ensuring the business remains at the leading edge of its field.
While you will work alongside Damon, you will have a strong, direct relationship with the company’s Chair, who is renowned in the boating, camping and fishing retail sector.
Your overarching brief will be to drive profitable growth, with a target of doubling revenue over the next three years while simultaneously building a more professional, disciplined operation.
You will take ownership of all aspects of day-to-day operations of the business, driving the key metrics that define success. You will build and inspire the Nomad team and ensure that business systems, processes, people, culture and operational principles are as excellent as the company’s products, propelling Nomad to quickly become a global industry leader.
About You:
You are a proven leader in the outdoor leisure/adventure sector seeking an opportunity to make a very tangible, positive impact in an environment where the difference you make will be both valued and rewarded. While a passion for fishing is not mandatory, it would be a distinct advantage!
You bring to the table:
- A demonstrated history of profitably and sustainably growing businesses in that sector specifically.
- A track record of high performance in sales management, category management, product lifecycle management and channel management.
- Strong experience in analysing, enhancing and implementing processes and systems, delivering quantifiable improvements as a result.
- A history of building teams and coaching those in them to higher levels of performance, evidenced by profitable, sustainable growth.
- Preferably, experience in privately held businesses involving direct engagement with owners/shareholders.
