Schedule: Position will be required to work various shifts between the hours of 07:00am and 01:30am Monday to Saturday, participation in weekend and public holiday rosters is also required.

Department: Haematology

Hourly rate range: $29.6150 - $47.7889 depending on experience (not including relevant penalty rates, allowances, loadings etc.)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Haematology Scientist - Central laboratory- Murarrie who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:

  • Blood film reporting and Specialist testing
  • Operation of Haematology analysers
  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
  • Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
  • Assisting with Stock Control
  • Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge
  • Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
  • Participating in training staff
  • Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
  • Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
  • May also include a rotation into the Central Blood Bank department

About you

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within Haematology is preferred
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
