Our client is an orchard and vegetable garden farming operation in the beautiful Megalong Valley, just two hours’ drive from Sydney. It has a renowned restaurant with seating up to 60, and has 360-degree views of escarpment and bushland. Nearly all the vegetables, fruit and herbs on the menu are grown organically on site, in large gardens that visitors can walk through and learn about from our onsite production managers. Some cattle and sheep are run on the property and other locally sourced proteins are also used. Regeneration and organic agriculture underpin the farming ethos of this business and restaurant.
Role
Approximately 10 acres of the farm are run as a horticultural enterprise (and includes a greenhouse), growing a wide range of vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, herbs, olives, and berries. The key responsibilities of the Head Gardener are as follows:
- 5 to 10 years’ experience growing a range of market garden vegetables.
- Garden services including pruning, weeding, leaf, and rubbish removal
- Identification and treatment of weeds, pests and diseases in both plants and turf
- Planting, feeding and fertilisation of plants and turf assets
- Assist with minor landscape upgrades
- Assist with the day-to-day running of the irrigation systems including the reporting of faults and repairs to the system
- Maintain professional relationships with staff and external stakeholders
- Provide information and customer service to restaurant visitors when required
- Cert III in Horticulture or Parks and Gardens
- Strong horticultural background in lawn and gardening maintenance
- A manual driver's licence is preferred
- Chemical Users licence (ACUP) is preferred
- Knowledge of irrigation systems is preferred
- Demonstrated leadership abilities

The role is located in the Blue Mountains at Megalong Valley, pristine enviroment, beautiful scenery.
