Head of Boarding, Wilderness School

Wilderness School is an exceptional educational community uniquely positioned to provide an unparalleled educational experience. With the successful appointment of the previous Head of Boarding to an international school, a unique opportunity presents for a values-driven, experienced and relational leader to guide the Wilderness boarding community.

The Head of Boarding delivers a world-class residential program and is accountable for standards of excellence across every facet of the house. The Head is responsible for creating and promoting conditions through which relationships flourish, skills are forged, and performances enhanced. The Head of Boarding actively supports, manages and engages in the day-to-day operations, duties and activities of the Boarding community, working in partnership with others to ensure a welcoming and inclusive community. Reporting directly to the Principal, the Head of Boarding leads the design, implementation, evaluation and review of a quality framework of policies, processes and procedures. A unique appeal of this role is the opportunity to collaborate widely with the broader school community as a leader in the school.

The successful candidate will demonstrate: 

• an appreciation for what is needed and expected for a boarding community to thrive
• experience, preferably within a boarding context, as a leader who develops strong relationships based on respect, trust and collaboration
• excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to identify, analyse and prioritise solutions in a dynamic environment
• outstanding communication skills, well-tailored to the specific needs of students, parents, staff and other stakeholders
• effectiveness as a mentor, who role models the attributes, aptitudes and routines that build capacity in others
• a commitment to, and a clear understanding of, the ethos of the Wilderness School and the Wilderness’ Mission and Values.

With a preferred commencement date in Term 2 or 3, 2024, applicants must have a right to work in Australia (but do not need to be a registered teacher).
