The Executive Officer Climate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in sustainability and climate change resilience, overseeing the implementation of key initiatives outlined in our Environment Strategy 2015-2025 and Liveable Climate Plan 2020. This role will see the successful applicant leading our efforts in climate change adaptation, mitigation, and energy transition, ensuring that the Council remains at the forefront of environmental stewardship.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the delivery of the Liveable Climate Plan and Energy Transition Plan, tracking progress and ensuring accountability.
  • Prepare annual sustainability reports and emissions reporting, managing strategic risk for the Climate business unit.
  • Advance environment, climate, and sustainability priorities by developing and updating strategies, initiatives, and policies.
  • Promote a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing culture within the organization.
  • Manage the business unit budget and business planning process.

What you’ll bring to our team

  • Demonstrated experience in environmental stewardship that supports the delivery of environmental programs including climate resilience and sustainability initiatives, environmental policy and strategy, water management and/or education programs.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and the political, economic and social environment within which local government operates.
  • Ability to identify future directions, develop a strategic position, provide high level strategic advice, and to develop appropriate strategies and policies.
  • Well-developed project management, contract management, people management and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong budgeting and business planning capabilities.
  • Significant team leadership experience including leading through change.
