This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024 

Wanneroo Secondary College (SC) is seeking an innovative Head of Learning Area (HOLA) committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students in the Mathematics Learning Area.

The successful applicant should have the capacity to lead a team; to assist staff to develop innovative and challenging teaching and learning practices and programs and to manage the continuous review of the implementation of engaging curriculum for students at all levels.

As a member of the senior management group, the Mathematics HOLA will be required to support whole school initiatives including the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and the Wanneroo SC Teaching and Learning Framework. You will have a key role in supporting staff to plan for and implement effective teaching and learning whilst creating and maintaining a supportive and safe learning environment and engage in formative feedback.

We are seeking an applicant with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The capacity to use data to inform practice is highly regarded.  The successful applicant should have the capacity to use data to inform practice to ensure ongoing and sustained improvement.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
