An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate leader to join Shelford Girls’ Grammar in 2024. Reporting to the Director of Teaching, Learning and Operations, the Head of Music (Instrumental) will be responsible for providing a dynamic, engaging and inspiring learning experience in music for all students. They manage and develop the instrumental staff and oversee the delivery of all instrumental activity. This includes private lessons, instrumental class programs and co-curricular activities, including music ensembles and other clubs, across the School.
The successful applicant will need to have:
- Relevant teaching qualifications and registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
- Experience producing music events such as music recitals, concerts, festivals, concerts and graduation events.
- Demonstrated outstanding classroom teaching skills.
- Contemporary knowledge of Music curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.
- An ability to lead, support and coach instrumental music staff towards achieving common goals.
- Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents and other staff, and experience in contributing positively to the culture of a school.
- Experience in planning instrumental music programs, and the management of Music budgets and resources.
- Contemporary knowledge of relevant standards, programs, technology, practices and trends in music education.
- Highly developed organisational skills and capacity to balance competing demands.
- A capacity to remain calm, be a problem solver, manage conflict and work collaboratively in overseeing performances and events.
This is a part time, fixed-term position for the remainder of the school year, commencing in Term 2, 2024, or sooner for the right candidate.

Due to the nature of this POR and the need to coordinate programs, some duties may need to be performed outside of regular school hours and days.
