Position: Head of Regional Delivery Lead (RDL)

Location: United States, United Kingdom, Boudry, and Australia

Position Summary

The Head of Regional Delivery Lead is an executive level role considered essential to the sustainability and success of the BMS R&D pipeline. This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Regional Clinical Operations (RCO) and is a key member of the Regional Clinical Operations Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drives strategy and operation leadership for Regional Delivery Leads (RDLs) to ensure global accountability of all country clinical operation teams supporting the BMS R&D portfolio.

  • Proficient in Global Drug Development strategy and delivery; actively coordinates with the Global Trial Management TA Heads, to the RCO Leadership team to ensure alignment and accountability for execution by the country clinical operations teams via the team of Regional Delivery Leads.

  • Builds and leads a multi-national team of Regional Delivery Leads (RDLs) that drive accountability and delivery of all country clinical operations team commitments within a region (e.g., Americas, EMEA, APAC, etc.) for assigned trials throughout the end-to-end study lifecycle by coordinating between global and local teams. Oversees Regional Delivery of study-start-up (regional input into protocol development, country/site feasibility and site selection), study conduct and study closure.

  • Provides ongoing feedback, coaching, and career development, including engagement and retention support to staff in order to maximize their potential. Empowers and holds Regional Delivery Leads and leadership at the regional and country level to high quality performance and delivery of the business.

  • Providing overall leadership and guidance across the portfolio that shapes the direction of Global Development Operations (GDO) strategy to assure optimized geographic allocation and accuracy of Regional commitments towards the delivery of trial execution. May support the identification of resource needs supported through internal resources & external partnerships, focused attention to site dynamics and needs to assure GDO becomes a favored site partner.

  • Engages with RCO Regional Heads to support the synthesis of Regional trends which would influence successful clinical trial execution.

  • Member of the RCO Leadership team who will identify influencing factors which require the adaptive management of site monitoring and site management resources.

  • Supports the identification of Regional needs with Drug Development stakeholders to maximize accuracy of developing accurate and assertive targets for Regional Delivery targets, to support of the evolving portfolio of BMS products.

  • Engages with GDO Leadership to ensure proper escalation of trends which may impact the strategic value of opportunities.

  • Proficient in the regulatory environment within the regions, providing direction, guidance and support during inspection preparation, sponsor, and site activities.

  • Represents the Company in key interactions with key external partners.

  • Serves as a leader across R&D and developing strong and productive working relationships with key stakeholders throughout BMS with the ability to think strategically across a broad portfolio and effectively expressing views to senior management.

  • Ensures GDO representation as needed in governance or strategic teams or committees (preparatory materials, direct participation, or representative).

  • Engages and energizes employees through communication of goals, priorities, and other business critical information as well as focus on employee value proposition, development, and retention activities.

  • Develops and promotes a workplace culture that values diversity of thought, promotes integrity and creates an atmosphere that supports coaching and fosters accountability.

Qualifications & Experience

Degree Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with an advanced degree preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 15 years of relevant industry experience, with substantial experience of managing staff in a global setting.

  • Significant global clinical trial expertise and a successful track record of leading through influence, working across complex, global organizational matrices.

  • A strong understanding of the drug development process with proven expertise in clinical trial execution and management in a global arena.

  • Expert in ICH/GCP principles as it relates to clinical trial execution and impact to the business supporting clinical trial execution.

Key Competency Requirements

  • Demonstrated partnership across various collaborative forums, CROs, SMOs and/or local site networks.

  • Diverse and sufficient technical expertise to be a credible interface to all global development and business partners (medical, development, commercial, regulatory & quality etc.)

  • Broad intelligence of the clinical trial environment across key regions, and anticipation of future trends and impact.

  • Strong influential leadership and communication capabilities with a proven ability to engage, manage, develop, and inspire a large, geographically diverse team.

  • Knowledge, experience, and successful interaction with important International Health Authorities.

Travel Requirements

Up to 30% of travel required.
