The Role
Reporting to the Assistant Director & Branch Head National Collection, the Head, Photographs Film and Sound leads a large section of curatorial staff, production and collection practitioners in managing and developing the National Collection of Photographs, Film and Sound related to Australia’s military history. The job provides leadership in a broad range of areas including section management, exhibitions, publications and other public programs as they relate to the collection, collection development and management including the latest electronic and multimedia technology, production services and conservation projects. The head contributes to corporate governance, manages budgets, represents the Memorial and liaises with stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

  • Under broad direction, provide leadership focused on the management and development of the Photographs, Film and Sound (PFS) areas of the National Collection, including:
    • Manage and develop staff providing strong leadership and promoting open communication and initiative
    • Develop and manage sectional priorities, programs, budgets and business plans
    • Contribute to the development of the Sstrategic Corporate and Business plans to align with corporate priorities
    • Manage the development, conservation and relevance of the PFS collections
    • Develop and manage the work program for the section to align with Memorial goals and priorities.
    • Prepare higher level documents, including analytical management reports, papers and correspondence.
    • Develop and implement policies, strategies, systems and standards for the care, conservation of the collection, facilities and equipment.
  • Advise senior management, Council and Government on relevant matters.
  • Perform functions and exercise powers provided by legislative or administrative appointment or delegation.
