About the role:
Reporting to the Business Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Health and Safety best practices during the mechanical plant installation of a new materials recycling facility at Rooty Hill. Working closely with cross-functional teams and contractors, you will provide expert guidance and support to ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations. This role is a 6-month Fixed Term contract with the possibility of further extension.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to develop and implement Health and Safety policies, and procedures, tailored to the needs of the greenfield mechanical plant installation.
- Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement effective control measures to mitigate risks.
- Provide ongoing Health and Safety supervision for employees, contractors, and visitors to promote a culture of safety.
- Act as a trusted advisor and resource for managers and supervisors on Health and Safety matters, including incident investigation and reporting.
- Review and assist in verifying SWMS/JSEA, Verification of Competencies, certifications, etc. issued by the contractors to suit specific activities.
- Undertake contractor and sub-contractor site induction including Pre Start-Up Safety Reviews and upkeep of records.
- Issuing and closing of daily permits for the mechanical plant install works such as working at heights, confined spaces, hot works, and electrical isolation.
- Oversee site activities such as traffic management, fatigue management, toolbox talks, safety audits and monitoring compliance with Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Project Safety Management Plan.
- Assist in preparing SOPs for accessing various equipment for maintenance and operational requirement.
- Tertiary qualified in occupational Health and Safety, or other relevant disciplines.
- Solid prior experience in a similar Health and safety role overseeing safety during mechanical plant installation and/or construction works within an industrial environment.
- Ability to influence and drive change through H&S initiatives and programs.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships with all stakeholders.
