Job description

Ensure the complete and accurate clinical classification for all inpatient episodes to meet the data reporting requirements of Queensland Health.

About the role

Permanent full time opportunity.

  • To ensure the complete and accurate clinical classification for all inpatient episodes to meet the data reporting requirements of Queensland Health.
  • An Advanced Clinical Coder is acknowledged as having high level clinical coding skills and knowledge, across a broad range of specialties in a tertiary setting, including Activity Based Funding, through extensive on the job experience.
  • Undertake auditing activities, data verification and clinical liaison to ensure the quality and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data.
  • Provide ongoing engagement, as part of a collaborative team approach, to clinicians and clinical programs regarding coding, documentation, education and the health informatics needs of the hospital.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Assist the Coding Manager and Clinical Coding Educator in the training and supervision of new and existing Coders/HIMs/Students and respond to coding queries at an advanced level.
  • Promote a safe and happy workplace by following the defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality services.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Senior Health Information Manager.
  • Undertake program specific clinician education sessions and quality assurance audits alongside Service Line Health Information Managers (SLHIMS) as required.
  • Proactively participate and organise end of month tasks, including ward coding, promoting teamwork to ensure monthly deadlines are met.
