Miwatj Health is looking for a Health Information Officer that will work in collaboration with other members of the Clinical Governance team and the Director Medical Services and other senior clinical practitioners the position configures, implements, and maintains clinical systems in line with recognised standards and best practice, applicable policy, legislation and stakeholder requirements. The role develops expert content knowledge to ensure maintenance, support, problem solving, and continuous service improvement are managed in a timely manner to meet organisational needs. This position also serves as an escalation point for advanced Health Information system support issues, and engages with a wide range of stakeholders, vendors and third parties.

Miwatj Health is an independent Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service. Established in 1992, we’re committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations.
Key Responsibilities
The Health Information Officer is responsible for the maintenance and updates of the Health Information and clinical communication systems to ensure Miwatj clinicians and clients have the best tools available to support the care provided, this role also manage the training and support staff for the clinical information system and applications and ensure staff have timely access and are trained sufficiently. Selection Criteria
Candidates must have an understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control, self-determination, and the issues faced by Yolŋu people living in remote settings, must be Registered Nurse and have a current Registration and Practicing Certificate as Registered Nurse through AHPRA. Demonstrate and in-depth clinical experience in the use of Communicare or similar system. Demonstrate an understanding of maintaining and problem-solving data held in large Health Information systems.
Desirable
- Relevant post graduate qualifications including Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Experience and understanding of the Communicare Patient Information Recall System.
- Knowledge of key performance indicators for Health Information systems.
- Qualifications in Health Information Management or sound understanding of current trends in Health Information Management
- Current Northern Territory Driver’s License
