About the Role:
The Health & Safety Trainer will work with the HSW team and stakeholders to uplift the HSW training profile at Melbourne Polytechnic. This will include the establishment of an annual calendar of HSW training based upon the identification of high-risk areas or cohorts as identified within the HSW Management Framework The incumbent will be an experienced, innovative and engaging trainer in the area of general health and safety, with particular focus on psychosocial awareness. The position has a pivotal role in supporting all parts of Melbourne Polytechnic in meeting compliance with HSW goals and objectives. The role will be responsible for raising the participation in and awareness of health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Duties:
- Provide a high level of subject matter expertise (theoretical and operational) in Health & Safety training creation, design and delivery while ensuring alignment with Melbourne Polytechnic’s strategies
- Coach, mentor and motivate the broader People & Culture team and employees in the benefits of training in support of a culture of growth and development
- Champion Health & Safety training as a mechanism to uplift capability across Melbourne Polytechnic while ensuring training is engaging and outcome focused
- Contribute to all relevant HSW documents to ensure training requirements are included
- Prepare reports and presentations for a range of audiences (WorkSafe Victoria, Executive Leadership Committee, HSW Committee)
- Track and collate HSW training compliance against targets and objectives

Skills and Experience Required:
- Relevant degree or diploma with extensive experience and a qualification in Cert IV or above in Occupational Health and Safety and Cert IV Training and Assessment
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001
- High commitment to continual improvement of health and safety training systems
- Strong communication skills including excellent presentation skills, group facilitation, written, oral, and cross-cultural communication skills
- Highly developed organizational skills including the ability to plan, prioritize, monitor and evaluate delivery of programs in an educational/community environment
- Ability to manage own workload, work autonomously and adopt flexible work practices as required.
